Picosa: As Dreams Ascend @ Chicago

  • PianoForte Chicago, Inc. 1335 South Michigan Avenue Chicago, IL, 60605 United States

Picosa brings a vibrant concert program to the stage, bursting with colors like Chicago's fall foliage rustling in cool autumn breezes on November 4th at 7:30pm at PianoForte Chicago. Our November concert is a program of contrasts and juxtapositions. The program begins with an audience favorite, the soaring and romantic Lark Ascending for violin and piano by Ralph Vaughn Williams. Shulamit Ran’s virtuosic work, Private Game, for clarinet and cello is an exquisitely crafted modern gem. Picosa brings the first half of the program to a close with Debussy’s lush Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun transcribed for the ensemble by Picosa’s resident composer Jonathon Kirk, a work that epitomizes the French impressionist style. Picosa’s second half of the program begins with the sparkling, brilliant, and energy of the Khatchaturian Trio for clarinet, violin, and piano. Jani Parsons presents Four Pieces for Piano, a collection of modern musical vignettes by Mike Pleska, Chicago composer and Picosa season ticket holder. Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos brings a folk influence to his charming duo for flute and cello, The Jet Whistle. Finally the concert closes with a work whose very title depicts electricity, Michael Gordon’s acdc for full ensemble. The hypnotic rhythm and minimalist style are captivating for the audience to hear. Finally, be sure to stay afterwards for the Meet the Musicians Gourmet dessert receptions! The ensemble is committed to its ongoing partnership with Hesed House, a national model for ending homelessness - one person, one family at a time. For all donations brought to the concert, the ensemble will give a discount of $5 off of full-priced tickets.
