NORTHWESTERN CELLO ENSEMBLE
The Northwestern University Cello Ensemble celebrates the release of its new album Shadow, Echo, Memory on the Sono Luminus label with a free concert as part of the Frequency Series at Constellation.
The vision of their album, and this evening's program, is to use the cello’s ability to capture the range and timbral qualities of the human voice. It is fitting then, that three of the works on the program are transcriptions of vocal works by composers Faure, Rachmaninov, and Wadsworth. As well as showcasing these old masters, the evening is also a family affair as it features compositions by Northwestern professors and esteemed composers Jay Alan Yim and Hans Thomalla, and NU cello alum Michael van der Sloot.
The Northwestern University Cello Ensemble is comprised of current cello students at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music. The group appeared on The New York Times’ Top 25 Classical recordings of 2015, and the New Yorker’s Top 10 Classical Recordings of 2015.
Northwestern Cello Ensemble features:
Riana Anthony, Christopher Bennett, Ethan Brown, Lucas Buterbaugh, Andrew Byun, Henry Chen, Brannon Cho, Hana Cohon, Drake Driscoll, Roey Dushi, Yaebon Go, Geirtrudur Anna Gudmundsdottir, Si Hao He, Saga de Leon, Myrtil Mitangaa, Jasmine Pai, Caroline Paulsen, Jeremy Tai, Hana Takemoto, Denielle Wilson, Josiah Yoo, Kevin Zaporski & Grant Zempolich
