Multi-instrumentalist/composer (and 2015 Doris Duke Impact Artist) Tyshawn Sorey and vocalist/composer Fay Victor worked together for the first time in 2009 in a set with the legendary trombonist Roswell Rudd. Subsequent meetings found them performing on a set on the Vision Festival 16 alongside vocalists Kyoko Kitamura and Jean Carla Rodea, bassist Ken Filiano for a set of original vocal compositions and free improvisations. Sorey and Victor are also participants on Anthony Braxton's Trillium E (New Braxton Records) released in 2011. Victor wanted to investigate creating a drum/voice duo like no other where the possibilities of expression run the extreme gamut and never fall into patterns of predictability.. Instead the goal has been to explore sounds, textures, rhythms, space and silence for a drum/vocal duo unlike anything you've heard before. Two consummate performers and musicians, with a binding principle - a trans-idiomatic perception of music - and freedom to delve into sound worlds in an integrated and organic fashion. The future for such exploration, preferably a concert setting, would certainly unearth boundless sound travel experiences.
