Two masterworks of the romantic era anchor the program, Debussy’s lush Piano Trio in G Major for violin, cello, and piano and Schumann’s lyrical Fantasiestucke, Opus 73, for clarinet and piano. Contrasting the depth of these magnificent works, is Mozart’s charming Adagio in E Major, k. 261 for violin and piano. In true Picosa fashion, these celebrated works complement newer gems which programmatically bring nature and joy into the concert hall. Picosa is especially thrilled to present a work by Wheaton College Conservatory of Music Professor Emeritus of Composition and Theory Howard Whitaker. His Marsh Conversations for flute and electronics together with Joan Tower’s Wings for solo clarinet bring birdsongs and the flutter of wings to the stage. Picosa presents two works with a multi-cultural flair. With innovative use of pentatonic scales and the influence of Indian Carnatic singing, Asha Srinivasan’s Drivaag for flute and cello is a delight. Finally, audiences will leave this concert uplifted from the infectious African rhythms of Fred Onovwerosuoke’s Nubian Dances. The ensemble is committed to its ongoing partnership with Hesed House, a national model for ending homelessness - one person, one family at a time. For all donations brought to the concert, the ensemble will give a discount of $5 off of full-priced tickets.
