Ian Ding at Constellation

Chicago-based percussionist Ian Ding presents several new works for solo percussion, including world premieres by Kahil El’Zabar, Lukas Ligeti, and Jamey Haddad, the Chicago premieres of pieces for solo drum set by Evan Ziporyn and Virgil Moorefield, and the local premiere of Ian’s arrangement of Steve Reich’s Vermont Counterpoint for solo marimba and 11 pre-recorded marimbas, in celebration of the composer’s 80th birthday. An artist faculty member of the University of Michigan and DePaul University and a former member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Ian is a founding member of New Music Detroit and has appeared with ensembles as diverse as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Bang on a Can All-Stars, Cleveland Orchestra, Alarm Will Sound, the Virgil Moorefield Pocket Orchestra, and Fulcrum Point New Music Project.
